COMTAR: Acoustic Guitar by dragontail
Project log: Here
We've seen a few music related mods over the years and even a few projects styled on
radios too.
As dragontail points out in his project log, this isn't the first project built into a guitar either but we think the project deserves some creative merit at least so here it is on Mod of the Month!
There are more interesting renders too that show how the hardware, mainly mini-ITX gear, will fit inside the instrument which has just started to happen in the most recent update to the log that dropped just before Christmas.
Here are the renders which appeared early on in dragontail's project log. The guitar remains mostly intact with just a small hole in the base for the optical drive and various smaller ones to house the I/O panel and power button.
It's no surprise that dragontail decided to use a mini-ITX motherboard for the build - low height, small size and low power are essential here so you don't have to hack the body around too much. The core hardware was powered up and tested first from the looks of things giving us a glimpse of the 2.5in hard drive and mini PSU. The red cathodes should look great beaming out from the inside of the guitar.
Here's the guitar in question and on the right dragontail has already cut out and removed the section needed to fit the hardware. Good thinking with the tape to prevent scratches.
Here's a close up of the hole showing the mounts for the motherboard and other hardware inside. In one of the most recent updates we can see the mini-ITX motherboard in place too.
